It has been a long time since I
have written a blog about our travels.

Travels with Homer (Personal
Trip Journal):
I will write this in the first person, since
Sharon will seldom add any comments to the blog. We are Al & Sharon a retired couple. Well I got to retire, but since Sharon has
been a home maker, she really didn’t get to retire.
NOTE: We sold our Born Free in the spring of 2014 due to some medical conditions which made using the Born Free difficult. We currently have a 29' 2006 Winnebago Class A motorhome that we travel in.
We currently travel in a 26
foot, 2005 Born Free, Class C motorhome named Homer. Homer has been converted to 4 wheel drive. This
allows us to camp in more remote scenic areas.
Additionally if we happen to get caught in a snow storm the 4 wheel
drive makes it much easier to travel if we have to. I have
also made improvements to Homer to make him more cold weather tolerant. I built an insulated enclosure for the holding
tanks and added a small blower to vent the warm air from the living area into
the holding tank enclosure to keep them from freezing in very cold temps. In the living area I added a propane quick
disconnect for an Olympic 6000 BTU portable catalytic heater to keep us warm
without running the forced air propane furnace. So far we have been in a low of 12* and
another time of several days with lows below freezing and highs right at
freezing. It has been little chilly
inside but pretty comfortable overall.
From 2006 to late 2010 we lived
and traveled full time in, first a travel trailer, then a 5th wheel
and finally a 40 foot diesel pusher motorhome.
In late 2010 we bought a home to be close to our two grandsons in San
Antonio. In early 2011 we sold the big
motorhome and bought the Born Free so we could continue traveling and be able
to take the boys camping with us. Being
close to the two grandsons worked fine until the summer of 2012, then our son
and DIL decided they have had enough of the Texas heat and packed up and moved
to the Portland, Oregon area.
Now we spend several months a
year traveling to Oregon and the Pacific NW to visit with our grandsons, son
& DIL.
